What If My Acne Medication Didn't Work? Here's the Question I'd Be Asking Next.
If you've found yourself reading this blog, I'm guessing you've already tried a few things.
• Maybe you've been prescribed creams.
• Maybe you've taken antibiotics.
• Maybe you've tried hormonal medication.
Perhaps your skin improved for a while, only for the breakouts to return. If that's you, I want you to know something.
You've not failed.
But it might be time to start asking a different question.
Not...
"What should I try next?"
Instead...
"What could be contributing to my acne in the first place?"
Treating Acne and Understanding Acne Aren't Always the Same Thing.
Before I go any further, I want to be really clear.
Prescription medications have an important place in acne treatment, and for many people they can make a significant difference.
But the women who usually find me aren't the ones whose acne cleared after one prescription.
They're the women who say things like...
"I've tried everything."
"Nothing seems to work long-term."
"As soon as I stop treatment, it comes back."
That's a very different conversation.
Because when treatment hasn't given you the long-term results you were hoping for, simply trying something else isn't always the answer.
Sometimes it's time to step back and investigate.
This Is Where I Think the Conversation Changes
When someone books a Skin Discovery Session with me, I rarely start by asking,
"What products are you using?"
Instead, I'm curious about the bigger picture.
I might ask questions like:
When did your acne first start?
Has anything changed in your life around that time?
What treatments have you already tried?
Where do your breakouts appear?
How does your skin feel throughout the day?
What does your current routine actually look like?
Why?
Because every answer gives us another clue.
Your Skin Is Telling a Story
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is the idea that acne is the problem.
I see it slightly differently.
Acne is often a symptom that tells us something deserves a closer look.
That doesn't always mean there's one single cause.
In reality, persistent acne is often influenced by several contributing factors working together.
That's why I don't believe in chasing one miracle product.
I believe in connecting the dots.
Why I Created the HELP+ Method
After years of working with clients, I realised that focusing on skincare alone wasn't enough.
Of course, homecare matters.
But it's only one piece of the puzzle.
That's why every Skin Transformation Journey follows my HELP+ Method:
Homecare – Building a routine that's right for your skin.
Education – Helping you understand why your skin behaves the way it does.
Lifestyle – Exploring the factors that may be influencing your skin.
Professional Treatments – Choosing treatments that support your skin's goals.
+ Additional Support – Whatever your skin may need.
Because clearer skin rarely comes from one thing alone.
I Don't Want You to Spend Another Year Guessing
If you've tried prescription treatments and you're still searching for answers, I don't want your next step to be buying another product because somebody recommended it online.
I want your next step to be understanding your skin.
Because once you understand what's contributing to your acne, you can start making informed decisions instead of hopeful guesses.
And that changes everything.
Final Thoughts
One of my favourite questions to ask is this:
"What if your acne isn't asking for another product... but a better understanding?"
Because that's where my work begins.
Not by assuming I already know the answer.
But by asking the questions that help us connect the dots.
If you're ready to stop guessing and start understanding your skin, my Skin Discovery Session is the first step.
Together, we'll explore your skin, your history and the factors that may be contributing to your acne, before creating a personalised plan that's designed around you.
